A female suicide bomber this morning killed 16 people and wounded 51
more when she detonated an improvised explosive device strapped to her
body at a market in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State.
A trader spoke to our correspondent about today’s deadly attack
in Damaturu, one of the main targets of incessant acts of terrorism
carried out in several states in Nigeria’s northeast by members of the
Islamist insurgent group, Boko Haram.
A trader at the market, Saliu Bukar, disclosed that the bomber,
believed to have strapped an IED on her body, blew herself up at the
entrance of the market located in the heart of Damaturu. Mr. Bukar told
SaharaReporters that at least 16 people were killed and many others
injured in the attack.
“Those near the area of the explosion revealed that the attacker was a female suicide bomber,” he said.
An official text message from Yobe State Emergency Service
Agency (SEMA) confirmed the number of casualties. The text stated that
those injured are currently receiving treatment at General Sanni
Abacha Specialist Hospital in the state capital.
