An eyewitness told our correspondent that a man standing by the
roadside close to a primary school on the street was also affected by
the crash.
The identity of the victims was not immediate available at the time of the accident.
SaharaReporters’ correspondent learned that the crash also caused damage on a section of the St. Louis Primary School, in Akure.
The timber trailer causing the accident has a Lagos plate registration number LAG XN 968 AKD.
A source said the driver is believed to have been intoxicted while driving the empty wooden timber trailer.
“I think the driver of the timber truck had already drunk because he
swerved off his lane and broke into the second road where two people
were standing. The trailer hit the two people and they died instantly,”
the source said.
When contacted, Wole Ogodo, the Police Spokesman in the State
confirmed the ugly incident to SaharaReporters during a phone
conversation, and added that the driver [Mr. Amrose] of the trailer has
been arrested.
Ogodo said Mr. Amrose could be charged with murder after the investigation has concluded.
The bodies of the victims have already been deposited at the morgue of the government hospital in the State capital.
